I know what you are thinking....
This is a page where I try to convince you that we are the best..... yada, yada, yada.
Not necessarily..... this is where I would like to give you a little insight as to how I think, my personality, and how I try to run my business & build fences.
I have learned (the hard way) over the years that "getting the good stuff" has really opened my eyes when it comes to something that you have to depend on. Disposable items do not count, many of today's electronics are a good example. A $40 DVD player usually works just fine and in two years it will be a dinosaur anyway. In my mind its a bit foolish to spring for that $300 DVD player just because it is supposed to be better. After all.... is on it's way to dinosaur status just the same.
My education on quality began about 25 years ago. As a teenager I was earning teenager wages and couldn't easily afford quality. I didn't really think there was that much difference. I drove an old 1969 Chevy truck and did the mechanical work myself. I'm still a darn good mechanic, I just don't enjoy it as much as I used to. Anyway, I eventually became an expert at replacing my water pump, alternator, fuel pump and starter. I bought my parts at Chief Auto Supply because it was close by. The parts were rebuilt, inexpensive and had a lifetime warranty! What more could you want! An original equipment, genuine GM water pump at the dealer was three times the cost and only had a one year warranty. Replacement parts from Chiefs sounded like a great deal.
Well, Chief Auto Supply kept their word on the warranty, and every time one of those parts failed they gave me a new one. Those parts failed time after time and usually when I was on the road going somewhere important. It got to the point where I couldn't depend on my truck to get me anywhere. I was always nervous when I left, then grateful and relieved when I arrived at my destination.
I'll speed this up a bit and get to the point. I finally asked a mechanic friend why this truck was such bad luck? He told me it's not my truck, those rebuilt parts are crap. He advised me to save up and get the original GM parts because "it's worth it". Afterwards, each time one of those parts failed, I bit the the bullet and paid the big bucks for an OE GM part and I NEVER replaced it again. Eventually I could drive that truck anywhere and know FOR SURE that I was going to be OK. This really opened my eyes.....Today, when it comes to my truck repairs, I always require original factory parts and nothing less will do. I have never been sorry (except when I received the bill!) The sting goes away in a few days and I know I can count on my vehicles everyday.
Here are a few more examples of my education:
My cheap, old $75 weed-eater from Home Depot many times would not start and it would only last a couple of seasons before switches went bad or the fuel lines started to rot. My $250 Echo weed eater is 6+ years old, starts in three pulls every time and still runs perfect today.
When I need to mow, I can mow.
I finally moved up a few steps on the computer ladder. I bought the big chip, big memory and sprung for a really fast processor. Everyday I turn this thing on, I am VERY HAPPY that I bought it. My old computers were usually bought on clearance to save a few bucks. I ended up with a computer that was always behind the times and slow.
Long story short, when I look back, I have never been sorry for buying quality. It has always been the on sale, close out, clearance, made in China stuff that has been disappointing. For me...aggravation has a price.
There are many areas that i could cut corners in this business, but at my own risk, i choose not to. I'm in this for the long haul, i'm not just passing through.
I chose this business many years ago because oddly enough, I thought I could make a difference. Well... I guess that I did, because today, many of my competitors are trying desperately to copy our work and especially my gates.
I am in this to build a good name and a great fence, not just collect your money and run.
If I can't enjoy the opportunity to do things right in this business, then I'd rather do something else.
Well... So far... So good!
